These show stopping, hand made earrings are crafted from blue coloured Australian Grass Parakeet feathers and Swarovski rivoli stones. The 12 mm stones in turquoise shade are glued to sterling silver backing. Please, note that the feathers are 100 percent natural, they have not been colour enhanced or dyed. All feathers (used) were naturally shed by birds, which were not harmed in the creation of these unique earrings. All of the feathers I work with have been ethically sourced, I only use one supplier - US located bird sanctuary that has been selling cruelty free feathers for 17 years now. Feathers can become ruffled, if this occurs simply smooth them out with your fingers. The earrings are almost 10.50 cm long top to bottom.
FEATHERS -are beautiful and complex structures, they are a bird’s most precious possession. After about a year, however, these delicate tropical jewels of nature wear out, at what point they can be collected. Each and Every Parrot Feather is unique and different in it’s own right. The feathers I am using are mostly primary wing feathers, or tail feathers (they are more easily to match)
CRYSTAL - is a fine, high-quality glass invented in 17th century in England. In order to be considered crystal rather than simple glass, the product must contain at least 10% lead oxide. The lead oxide is attributed to providing the glass with extraordinary qualities of brilliance.
The term GRASS PARAKEET (or grasskeet) refers to a large number of small Australian parakeets native to grasslands such as the Neophema genus and the princess parrot. Australia’s Grass Parakeets have six or seven species. They are beautiful little parrots in a good variety of colours, differentiated by patches of green mixed with other colours. The genus has some sexual dichromatism, with males having brighter hues.
