TURQUOISE - is an opaque blue to greenish stone, hydrous phosphate of aluminium with some copper and iron. Different colours of turquoise, varying from sky blue to nearly green occur in untreated turquoise. Brown or gray streaks in turquoise are caused by the "matrix", or "mother stone”, from which the gemstone is mined. Native American associated the colours of the stone with the blue sky and the green earth. The word turquoise was derived around 16th century from the French word turquoise, for Iranian material which was early imported through Turkey. It is believed to attract money success and love. Its power includes protection, healing, courage, friendship and luck.
