TOPAZ- is one of the best known gemstones. Even its name sounds like something exotic and fabulous from The Arabian Nights. The name is believed to derived from the Greek word topazoz, the ancient name for St. John's Island in the Red Sea, or from the Sanskrit tapas meaning fire. It may be found in many colours, such as blue, brown, clear, green, orange, pink, red, yellow and white. The most valuable topaz is "Imperial" topaz with a golden yellow to orange colour. Topaz is associated with courage and overcoming fear and obstacles.
BLUE TOPAZ-can be found in both lighter and darker tones, usually known in the trade as Sky Blue Topaz, Swiss Blue Topaz and London Blue Topaz. As in the case of other blue gems, the more saturated blues tend to have a higher value. So in topaz it is the London Blue that usually regarded as the most valuable. London Blue Topaz is a medium to dark greyish blue, sometimes described as "steely" or "inky." Many London Blues have a slightly greenish tone when viewed from certain angles. Blue topaz is usually irradiated and often heated to produce blue colour.
