QUARTZ- is one of the most well-known minerals on earth. It occurs in basically all mineral environments, and is the important constituent of rocks, as well as being the main constituent of glass and sand on the beach. Quartz is also the most varied of all minerals, occurring in all different forms, habits, and colours. It can be found in a range of colours from clear through white, yellow, pink, violet, brown to almost black. The colours come from impurities incorporated into the crystal matrix. Due to its many colours it has been used as semi precious gemstones and in ornaments. Some forms of Quartz, especially the gemstone forms, have their colour enhanced. Almost all forms of the yellow-brown variety Citrine are in fact heat treated. Much Amethyst is also heat treated to intensify colour, and a green transparent form known as "Green Amethyst" or "Prasiolite" is formed by heat treating certain types of Amethyst. The name "quartz" has been derived from the German "Quarz," a Slavic origin. It is the most common material identified as mystical substance maban in the Australian Aboriginal mythology. Pliny the Elder, a Roman naturalist believed quartz to be a permanently frozen ice. According to him, quartz is found near glaciers in the Alps and that the crystals of quartz were fashioned into spheres to cool the hands. It was also known to him the ability of quartz to split light into a spectrum.

BLUE QUARTZ-is simply macro crystalline quartz that is blue. Like all quartz, it can be used as a power amplifier during magic. Blue quartz is especially fine as a peace or tranquillity stone.

TOURAMALINE-the name tourmaline comes from Singhalese word tura mali. In translation this means something like "stone with mixed colours. Tourmaline is generally thought of as green, but can be almost any colour, indeed some tourmalines display two more colours within the same crystal. Tourmalines are gems with an incomparable variety of colours. The reason, according to an old Egyptian Legend, is that the tourmaline on its journey up from the centre of the earth, passed over the rainbow. In doing so, it assumed all the colours of the rainbow. It is said to strengthen both body and spirit. It is also believed to attract inspiration.

GARNET - is a naturally occurring gemstone. Its name come from Latin granatus meaning seed, because it often resembles in colour and shape the seeds of pomegranate. It was believed that the wearer of garnet was kept in good health and protected while travelling. Garnet is worn to signify truth and faith.

CRYSTAL - is a fine, high-quality glass invented in 17th century in England. In order to be considered crystal rather than simple glass, the product must contain at least 10% lead oxide. The lead oxide is attributed to providing the glass with extraordinary qualities of brilliance.
